TWEENS BY THE NUMBERS
What’s the best part of being your age?

“I am exposed to much more mature things.”
“I get to bully people because I’m tall.”
“Getting more money than I used to get for Christmas and my birthday.”

“Getting spoiled.”
What is the hardest part about being your age?
“Begging does not work.”
“Homework, middle school and puberty.”
“I’m old enough for a lot of ‘extra responsibilities.’”
“Having a lot of problems with my friends!!”
“Fitting in.”
“Kids teasing me about my weight. But I get over it.”
“All the changes in your body.”
“Everyone treats you like you’re still a little kid.”
“You can’t drive.”
“Dealing with drama queens!”
“Being stuck in the middle of a kid and a teenager.”
“Having people know your crush!”
My parents embarrass me the most when…
“…they show my naked baby pictures.”
“…they try to act cool—like teens. My mom does that a lot.”
“…they talk to my friends about things they don’t want to hear.”
“…they talk to their friends about bad things I’ve done.”
“…my mom wiggles her hips and sings Led Zeppelin in front of other people.”
“…they kiss me in front of my friends.”
Do you wish your family lived in the suburbs?
“No, because it’s too grassy and you have to feed the horses and stuff.”
“No, because it seems bland, boring and far from everything.”
“No, because New York rules.”
“No—you have to take the car everywhere, and cars are bad for the environment.”
“No. In a suburb, you don’t have the opportunity to party.”
“Yes, because then I would be able to say, ‘Let’s play in my backyard.’”
“Yes. There’s more space and more nature, and I would be more likely to get a dog. But I’m happy living in NYC. I’ll stay.”
