Week 2 Coursework
Page history last edited by Teri Lesesne 2 mos ago
HERE ARE THE TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED THIS WEEK, OCTOBER 12-18, 2009. BASICALLY, THESE ACTIVITIES INVOLVE POSTING, READING, POSING QUESTIONS, EXPLORING SOME WEB SITES, AND DESIGNING A REPORT ON YOUR TWEEN BOOK FROM WEEK #1. IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE, YOU MUST COMPLETE ITEMS #1-3 THIS WEEK. ITEMS #4-5 WILL BE DUE IN 2 WEEKS. ITEM #6 WILL BE AN ONGOING ASSIGNMENT.
- Click on the link in the SideBar to take you to the page on TWEEN PSYCHOLOGY. This is adapted from a chapter in my book, NAKED READING (Stenhouse, 2006) and contains some information about the particular developmental needs of tweens and young teens. Read the information at this page.
- Once you have read TWEEN PSYCHOLOGY, click on the SideBar link for REFLECTIONS ON THE TWEEN BOOK READ FOR WEEK 1. Please use this page to post your thoughts about the book you read. Basically postings should include:
- a brief bit of bibliographic info (author, title, publisher);
- a brief summary of the contents of the book; and
- a reflection on how something in this book is reflective of the readings you have done in Week 1 and 2. For instance, how does the main character reflect some aspect of tween development (intellectual, moral, social, etc.)? How is this book different from ones that would be written for older teens? How might you introduce this book to tweens in a booktalk?
- Use the link in the SideBar to naigate to the page entitled WEB SITES ON TWEENS. Explore the web sites posted.
- Once you have visited the web sites posted, do some further exploration and locate additional sites that would be of interest to the class participants. Post the URLs and a brief description on the page entitled CLASS SUGGESTIONS FOR WEBSITES (the link is in the SideBar). An example is provided.
- Select another book to read from the RECOMMENDED READING LIST FOR TWEENS, 2009 (link in SideBar). The same alternatives offered last week still apply in that you can read from a NYT list or a YALSA list as long as the book is appropriate for tween readers.
- Should you have any questions you want to ask me or topics you wish to see addressed (other than the ones in the syllabus), you can always post them to the page QUESTIONS FOR TERI. Of course, more burning questions should be sent to me directly via email (terilesesne@gmail.com or professornana@yahoo.com).
