WELCOME TO THE CLASS

Page history last edited by Teri Lesesne 2 mos ago

Welcome to AIMing at Tweens.  This page contains some of the basic information that should help you get the most out of the course.  Basically, the goals and objectives of the course focus on learning as much about the tween segment of our population and then describing the services, programs, activities, and strategies that will help librarians advise, involve, and motivate tweens.

OBJECTIVES  The participant will:

1.      Describe the developmental needs of the tween including physical, intellectual, moral, and social aspects;

2.      Discuss how librarians can meets the developmental needs of tweens;

3.      Identify books and related materials that are developmentally appropriate for tweens;

4.      Develop resources for use with tweens; and

5.      Share ideas for working effectively with tweens.

Basic Course Requirements

·         Reading:  there will be weekly readings of articles about tweens as well as some reading of tween books

·         Writing: there will be requests to annotate reading of tween books and to respond in writing to articles about tweens

·         Discussion: there will be weekly forums for discussion of topics posted.

Additionally, there will be opportunities for those who wish to explore an issue or topic more deeply to do further reading and reflecting.

Tips for Successful E-Learning

o   Accessing the web site on a regular basis is crucial. Participants will need to join our online community weekly.  More often is even better.

o   Following the timeline for course requirements (reading, writing, discussion) is important. While this is a nontraditional format, hitting deadlines for postings means that we can all share thoughts and opinions as a group.

o   Contributing to the discussion is essential. This is a learning community.  We learn from one another as well as from other resources.

o   Communicating with the instructors is vital.  If there is something that prevents you from performing class activities, let me know.  If something is unclear, ask a question.  If there is a topic related to the course we need to address, post a question for classmates to discuss.
